Though it’s obvious from the voice quality and her style that she is predisposed to singing power ballads, Lozada went for balanced repertoire in “Got Fridays @ Teatrino.” That means we got new songs such as “Rolling In The Deep” and “Edge of Glory;” recent favorites as Alicia Keys’ “Fallin” and “Empire State of Mind” (the piano version sans Jay-Z); OPM hits “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita” and “Ikaw Ang Aking Pangarap;” the inspiring “Go The Distance” and “Light Of A Million Mornings;’ and so on.
When Lozada opens her voice to sing, one wonders where such power comes from. Unlike others whose similar efforts seem studied, either to get applause or to show off, Lozada comes across as one who is simply doing what comes naturally. This is the reason that though many of her songs were vocally demanding, she did not falter one bit. Using such range, summoning such force seems second nature, like breathing.
Yet she knows how to give way and let other shine. In her production numbers with fellow “Pinoy Dream Academy” alumni, she held back and gave each of them his moment though she could’ve easily out sing them with one hand tied behind her back.
It was the same when it came to singing with Jovit Baldivino, himself, an electrifying vocalist. It only gives legs to the adage that it’s easy to be magnanimous when you’re secure with what you have.
Lozada is lucky to have held a major show at Teatrino. Though not yet as iconic as the Music Museum (both are owned by the same company), the venue is very classy and has all the technical requirements that make for an exciting show. As opening salvo of the
“Got Fridays @ Teatrino” series, the venue was spruced up and refreshments were sold at very reasonable prices (the most expensive order was just P350) that even the younger crowd filled up on bar chow and beverage without busting their budget.
The young belter invests herself fully in her shows. When she got over the initial stage fright, she shared her feelings and thoughts with the audience as if we have been friends for a lifetime and we were all just in someone’s living room. She could get a bit busy with her hands—a bit fidgety, you might say--- when she speaks but that will go away when she has become a more polished performer.
The night’s best number was Lozada’s version of “Di Lang ikaw” by Juris. A quiet but very emotional song, the Backroom talent delivered the song’s piercing message very sincerely. It only shows that even without hitting the high notes, Lozada can touch hearts as she has the intelligence of an artist who puts as much premium on feelings as on technique.
According to a release, “Got Fridays @ Teatrino” is a smorgasbord of musical sets, providing nearly three hours of performances. Directed and conceptualized by Freddie Santos, thel presentation “brings young, up and coming artists who have already been launched or have had their first CD albums released up to the next level of their musical careers.”
The musical project is collaboration between Music Museum Group Inc and various artist management houses. Other artists in the lineup are Markki Stroem, Nicole and Carlo David, Jammistas (Yssa Alvarez, Sabrina, Davey Langit, Noelle Cassandra and Marvin Ong), 3 AM (Mica Caldito, James Torres and Kyle Amor), Krissy and Ericka, Kris Lawrence, Vincent Bueno and Gian Magdangal.
