Philippine Volcanoes Win Silver at Asian Men’s Rugby 7 Championships
The Philippine Volcanoes have beaten the odds and bagged the silver medal at the recently concluded 2011 Asian Men’s Rugby 7s Championships held at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
Now ranked no. 7 in Asia, the Philippine Volcanoes were able to beat powerhouse China and reached their first ever Cup final. It was the very first time that the Philippine team has trumped the Chinese nationals and it was considered a major upset at this year’s meet.
The Philippine team, en route to the finals, had also beaten Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, and host country Malaysia.
In the finals, top team Japan has defended their title after beating the Philippine Volcanoes. But for the Philippine National Rugby team, it feels like they’ve won because beating China and facing Asia’s top rugby team in the finals are already beyond their expectations.
Philippine Volcanoes coach Mat Cullen said “We had set a goal of reaching the last four in the tournament . We have now set a few records. We beat China for the first time and by entering the final we have put Philippine rugby on the map. Finishing second to a team like Japan is an honor. It is way beyond our expectations.”
Unlike the Smart Gilas Pilipinas team who failed to advance to the Olympic qualifier yesterday, the Philippine Volcanoes is now on track to compete next March at the Olympic level in the world renowned Hong Kong 7s.

Mario Maurer movie in the Philippines has been approved.
MOVIE WITH STAR CINEMA. When news about Mario's visit to the Philippines came out, there were rumors that he would be doing a movie with Kapamilya actress Erich Gonzales.
Although nothing had been finalized, Erich said she was grateful to be considered as his leading lady.
Joyce Ramirez of PR Asia Worldwide confirmed to PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) this morning, September 23, that the Mario Maurer movie has been approved.
But it is still not official if Erich will be his leading lady.
Star Cinema will start work on the movie in March 2012.
"Ten [shooting] days in Manila and 15 days in Bangkok," said Joyce in a text message to PEP.
The group is currently auditioning the Thai cast, that will also be supported by Filipino actors.
Mario's movie will be directed by Filipino director Rory Quintos.

Penshoppe unleashes Thai invasion with Mario Maurer
Maurer steps in as Penshoppe’s latest presentor, as recently confirmed by the line’s brand director Alex Mendoza. The 22-year-old actor and model takes off from the brand's international campaign, which was earlier led this year by British actor Ed Westwick of the popular series "Gossip Girl."

Among the films that boosted Maurer’s name to public consciousness was "The Love of Siam" released in 2007. In his debut role, he played a conflicted teen who develops a romantic liking to his boyhood friend. His remarkable portrayal awed fans from the Philippines, winning a Best Actor award at the 2008 Cinemanila, an annually-held international film festival in the Philippines.
In 2010, Maurer also starred in "First Love (Crazy Little Thing Called Love)," a romantic-comedy which saw him garnering major acting awards, and assured him a spot as one of the region’s most sought-after stars.

Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes accused of faking documents
Miss Universe 2011 winner Miss Angola Leila Lopes is being accused of using fake documents to enter qualifying competition Miss Angola United Kingdom in 2010.
The 25-year-old beauty queen has been accused of using fake documents to qualify for Miss Angola United Kingdom last year.
According to the Beauty Pageant News website, an Argentinian newspaper reported that Lopes forged documents to join the competition last October 2010.
This was said to be the qualifying contest for Lopes to officially represent Angola in the Miss Universe.
The documents allegedly showed her as a business management student at a British school making her an eligible candidate.
The forgery was reportedly done by a certain man named Charles Mukano, who was said to be responsible for organizing the competition.
Since the competition was for Angolan citizens living in the U.K., the Argentinian newspaper also stated that Lopes is not qualified to enter the Miss Universe pageant, according to the article published on entertainment site Metro Masti on September 18.
The report said, "The route that Leila Lopes took was that for Angolan citizens living in the United Kingdom where as the crowned Miss Universe model had never lived out of Angola."
If the accusation is true, the Miss Universe crown might be taken away from Lopes.
Meanwhile, Manila Bulletin reported on September 16 that the Miss Universe Organization told the AOL Latino that they do not know Mukano.
It also clarified that the organizer of the Miss Angola pageant is Renato Guttler.
Likewise, it denied the accusation of falsification of documents against Lopes, who is the first candidate from Angola to win the crown.
Following Miss Angola in the ranking at the Miss Universe 2011 were Miss Ukraine Olesia Stefanko (1st runner-up), Miss Brazil Priscilla Machado (2nd runner-up), Miss Philippines Shamcey Supsup (3rd runner-up), and Miss China Luo Zilin (4th runner-up).

13-year-old boy shoots alleged 17-year-old boyfriend, then himself in SM Pampanga

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that two minors were seriously wounded in a shooting incident inside SM Pampanga in San Fernando City shortly before noon Tuesday, September 20.
According to the report, Supt. Wilson Santos of Mexico, Pampanga police revealed that a 13-year-old boy shot his alleged lover, a 17-year-old boy, in the head. The boy, who used a caliber .22 pistol, then shot himself in the head. The incident happened in front of the Astrovision store at the mall’s Building 3.
The critically-wounded victims were first rushed to the Jose B. Lingad Hospital in San Fernando City. The 13-year-old was transferred to San Fernandino Hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), while the 17-year-old was transferred to V.L. Makabali Hospital.
Santos further disclosed that a suicide note was recovered from the bag of the younger boy. In it, he said he was willing to die with his companion. "Parang lover’s quarrel. Tinitignan po natin ang kanilang relationship," Santos said.
In a statement the mall's management said: "The SM management deplores the unfortunate incident that happened today at SM City Pampanga and is fully cooperating with the authorities in this regard."
The ABS-CBNNews.com report noted that this is the third shooting incident to take place in an SM mall.
Last September 14, enraged wife Shella Macapugay shot and killed her husband, Abel, who worked as a sales clerk at the Homeworld store in SM North Edsa. Ricardo Inamac III, the security guard who tried to stop Macapugay from committing suicide after the shooting, was also killed.
Last July 29, a security guard was killed in a shootout with Games and Amusement Board employee inside the restroom of SM Delgado mall in Iloilo City.

Anti-Planking Act of 2011 Philippines –

SEC. 2. A universal Code of Student Conduct is hereby prescribed where planking as a form of redress of grievance be strictly prohibited and appropriate sanctions be applied for violations thereof.
SEC. 3. Under this Act, planking is when a student or group of students lies face down in unusual locations especially in streets or other public places, keeping the hands along the body and the feet outstretched and especially where such act is meant as a form of redress of grievance against government.
SEC. 4 Every bonafide student from any school, college or university shall conduct himself with high degree of discipline and propriety.
SEC. 5. The Department of Education in the case of elementary and high school students and the Commission on Higher Education in the case of college students shall draft a universal Code of Student Conduct to carry out the provisions of this Act.
Further, DepEd and CHED, respectively shall issue appropriate rules and regulations to effectively carry out intent and purpose of this Act.

20 'tuko' seized in Davao home
THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized 20 to 30 Philippine geckos at a house in Morales Village, Matina, Davao City, Monday afternoon.
Armed with a search warrant, issued by Regional Trial Court branch 12 Judge George Omelio, NBI agents recovered around 20 to 30 tuko from the house of one Mr. Wang and Mr. Kim, reportedly Korean nationals.
Lawyer Arcelito Albao, NBI spokesperson, said they were not able to arrest the suspects since the latter were not anymore in the country.
"Sa pag adto namo didto, ang naa lang ang helper, pero wala man pud siyay alamag ani," he said.
"Last week pa unta namo ni adtuon pero after pag approve the search warrant wala na didto ang duha ka Koreano, so ginahulat pa to namo nga mag balik pero wala man jud so amo na lang gi-adto jud kay good for 10 days lang man ang bisa sa search warrant," he said.
He said they were able to talk with the Koreans after their helper called them by phone. They knew that the respondents were already in Korea.
"Ana pa ang Koreano gina-alagaan lang daw nila, pero imposible kay sa kadaghan ani murag gina negosyo jud ni," he said.
He said tuko, if sold, would allegedly cost more than P15 million since a tuko weighing 400 grams would cost P500,000 to P1 million.
"Base sa mga silingan, gina sulod lang ug kawayan para dili mahalata pag igawas nila, usahay isulod sa mineral water bottle nga walay sulod," he said.
Albao said they suspected that the house is only rented to keep the tuko.
"Wala'y mga gamit ang balay, wala'y mga bangko, walay lamesa, wala jud," he said adding that the tuko and the respondents stayed in the house for two months.
The tuko are placed inside a large black rubberized container and it is kept under a lavatory located outside the house.
"Around 20 to 30 jud ni sila kay dili pa namo kayo mabilang ka yang uban nailaloman na, naa pud mga ulod sa sulod silbing pagkaon sa mga tuko," he said.
Albao said the smallest tuko would weigh around 100 grams and the largest would weigh more than 400 grams.
NBI regional director Max Salvador said they are still waiting for the representatives from the office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the proper turnover of the tuko.
"Naa mi memorandum of agreement with the DENR para ani," he said.
He said the suspects would probably sell the tuko abroad.
The agency will file cases against the two Korean nationals for alleged violation of the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
Salvador said the NBI has a specialized training on the wildlife act.
He said this is the first time the NBI seized tuko in the region.
He added that the NBI is training its eyes on violators who keep tuko for business.

According to a report on “Unang Hirit” on Sept. 20, Department of Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas has already offered Supsup to design for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 renovation project.
“[And mag-]design an airport, hindi lahat nakakagawa niyan. Like, ‘yan ‘yung dream project ng karamihan ng architects. So it’s a pleasure, it’s my honor to be part of that team to design the NAIA,” the beauty queen said.
A separate story on “Umagang Kay Ganda” also on Tuesday relayed that Supsup was appointed as the Araneta Center’s Green Building Architectural Consultant. More, she is also already in talks with Gawad Kalinga in relation to building houses for the victims of typhoon Ondoy in 2009.
“Ako rin I was also a victim of Ondoy kaya alam ko how it is to have your homes flooded,” Supsup, currently a resident of Cainta, Rizal, said.
‘It’s a rollercoaster ride!’
Supsup has been busy with activities since coming home Sunday morning. After a press conference and a TV appearance that day, the beauty queen made a courtesy call to President Noynoy Aquino before his flight to the US. On Monday, a victory parade was held starting at the Araneta Coliseum.
The parade proceeded to the Quezon City Hall where Supsup was welcomed by hoards of fans, QC Mayor Herbert Bautista and Councilor Alfred Vargas, among others.
Supsup and her entourage also made stops at her alma maters, the University of the Philippines in Diliman and Makati High School, and in Cainta. She was given honors by UP, the Gawad Lakad Tagkan by the Makati government, and was hailed as the Most Outstanding Citizen of Cainta.
Talking about the warm reception she has been receiving since her return, Supsup likened her experience to being on a rollercoaster ride.
“Sabi ko nga po hindi ko na kailangan ng korona. Kumbaga the fact lang na gano’n yung pagtrato nila sa ‘kin, sobra-sobra na po ‘yon,” Supsup told “UH.”
The beauty queen also said that she has already accepted her third runner-up finish “with an open heart, with a grateful heart.”
Asked about her relationship with beau Lloyd Lee, Supsup told “UKG,” “There are things na I think should be left private.”
Meanwhile, Supsup is already in General Santos City where she will grace whole day activities put together in her honor. The activities, as reported by “UH,” include a victory motorcade, a press conference, a trip back to her hometown in Brgy. Katanggawan and a mini variety show in the evening.

I’ve mentioned here in my blog that I love the movie Love of Siam right? Do you still remember your first love? Me I still do and it hurts so much. I wanted to commit suicide at that time. Well enough of my stories let’s go to Formula 17. This is so fun and so cool. I got a trivia for you guys this movie was banned in Singapore because it "portrayed homosexuality as normal, and a natural progression of society".
Even though it’s banned in Singapore I was able to get a copy from a good friend of mine. Although “Love of Siam” is romantic and touching, Formula 17 gives us the different faces of love. I thought the movie was all about cars because of its title “formula 17” but it was all about the naive countryman Chou T'ien-Tsai who went to Taipei to meet his chat mate how odd is that……

In 2006, he joined reality-based talent search show, StarStruck, where he won the "Ultimate Hunk" title. As of September 1, 2007, Abrenica signed as a contract artist for Regal Films. Abrenica played Cervano/Zaido in Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan. He has also appeared in Zaido, Dyesebel and Boys Nxt Door, Luna Mystica and SOP Rules. He is also named Yes Magazine's Next Big Male Star.
Abrenica played Miguelito "Lito" Sanchez in the afternoon drama, Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin?. He also starred in the film Nandito Ako...Nagmamahal Sa'Yo, a film produced by Regal Films.
He appeared in All My Life in 2009 and in the television series The Last Prince in January 2010, which was followed by Ilumina in October 2010 and Machete in 2011.
Abrenica joined in a GMA Christmas Reality show, Puso Ng Pasko: Artista Challenge in December 2010 and stars in the GMA horror comedy anthology, Spooky Nights Presents: The Ringtone which premiered April 2011.
